Rugged Durable and Downright Cool

Have been and still am a big fan of Casio G Shock line of watches but have always longed for one of the Luminox watches. After seeing the EVO Colormark line I could resist no longer. Watch is large but it is light in weight. If you are accustomed to the weight and size of Casio G Shock watches this watch will not be anything that requires you to adjust to. The band is substantial yet flexible. The luminous quality of the dial and hands wins outright compared to the light activated paint of the G Shocks and others. Numbers on watch face and bezel are highly conrasting and easily read. A quick glance is all that is needed to tell what time it is. I may have watches with more bells and whistles or flashier dress watches but this one combines ruggedness funtionality and simplicity with aesthetics. Not what I would expect from Luminox


First I want to say I have had several Luminox watches. I never cared for the earlier or cheaper models because they had and still have mineral crystals and the crowns do not screw down. I like the idea of the all steel case like the EVO 6400 series. They have sapphire crystals that are much more difficult to scratch and the poly / rubber bands are

thick and well made. Now for the timepiece I can't imagine a S.E.A.L wearing this watch in heavy combat. First the gas lamps would need to be covered as they are most likely a giveaway to your position. If you are a S.E.A.L. you probably already know this. Second my watch's second hand fell off inside the watch and the bezel marker fell out and was lost. I believe it was caused by repetitive vibration caused from thousands of shots with a nail gun while building a deck. So you can imagine what repetitive weapons fire would do. My Casio Frogman seems to hold up much better when it comes to shock resistance. I left a message with Luminox about the problem and was never contacted.

Great Watch!

I never write reviews about anything I buy but I felt that I needed to because this watch has had zero reviews written on it but is an awesome watch! The watch is EXTREMELY lightweight and classy due to it not having any of those "bright colors" that the rest of the Colormark series seem to have. The blue tritium is a little dimmer than the green stuff but overall still very visible in "low light" conditions. The strap is very comfortable for being made out of rubber. The vertical tritium vial on the bezel is visible and I only note this because some have stated that the Colormark series seem to have been lacking in that department. The only downside is that the second hand does not sweep directly onto the second marker. This may or may not be a huge "turn off" for most people but I have never owned a watch that had the second hand come close to the second marker on its sweep. However this watch actually does come the closest to having the second hand "sweep correctly." All in all this is a great watch that will be my "kickaround" watch from now on...I hope this helps in your decision making...More detail ...

No Bling is a Good Thing

I recently purchased through Amazon the Luminox 8802 Navy Seal 20th Anniversary 8802 Black/Graphite Dial watch. The design of this model is understated compared to some other Luminox models. I am a fan of Luminox but frankly some models are too garish IMHO. I was looking for a good quality watch that does what I need without confusing me with extras I neither want or use.

This watch doesn't have the "WOW! Look at me!" that many people prefer. The watch excells in low light and dark conditions. Unlike many other watches the Luminox doesn't need an external source for its luminosity. It is however the watch of choice when your buddy can't see the hands on their own watch and is constantly asking you for the time.

The strap is rubber and is comfortable. I don't know if a stainless steel bracelet is available.

If I could change a couple of features it would be making the calendar a little bigger (to help my aging eyes) and have a screwdown crown. If your are looking for a watch with all the bells and whistles with multple funtions this isn't it. Overall however for a good looking low key everyday watch Luminox has a winner.More detail ...

A superb casual watch

The basic Luminox watch is a superb day watch. Although I am on my second one in eight years this may be a record as I am not gentle with watchs. The first one's crystal cracked but the second one is driving on like a champ.



Pro's-

The luminous stuff on the hands and face (tritium vials) is bright. I mean really REALLY bright. None of this hold it under a light" silliness but wake up at three thirty in the morning and have no trouble reading it.

The twelve o'clock tritium vial is orange not green acting as an index point even in complete darkness. See remark about 0330 hrs.

The bezel can be turned reasonably easily but won't turn by itself when you are not looking.

Accuracy is good.

Shock resistance overall durability is very good (damage to my first watch was purely my fault and exceeded any reasonable expectation of survival).



Con's

The Navy SEAL propaganda can be mildly annoying.

The bezel is synthetic (plastic) and after two or three years of use starts to go smooth and the numbers start to wear off.

The luminous stuff on the hands and face (tritium vials) is bright. I mean really REALLY bright. This con is a special case. If a service member wants to wear this watch in the field one of those watchbands with the flap to cover the face is a REALLY good idea.

The synthetic strap isn't so good. I replace the watch band with a nylon/velcro one on the first day.

The little compass that comes with it is a wasted effort get a Suunto watchband compass. Same size superior in every way.



On the whole a tremendous value for money and when I abuse my current one beyond usefulness I will certainly get another one.More detail ...
